Rapidly Program Equipment on the Program Page

Roles: Technician
Last updated: January 2020

When many pieces of equipment need to be programmed at the same time, the rapid programming tool provides many shortcuts to help streamline this process.

The Program page provides a spreadsheet-like view optimized for quickly configuring all units on a property.

Program Meters View

Some of the features highlighted in this article:

  • Smart Copy Cells
  • Right-click Options
  • Meter Type Builder
  • Network View for Gateway and Repeaters
  • Detailed Changes Review
Step 1: Initiate the Programming Process

Select the Start Programming Button to Enter Read/Write Mode

When you first navigate to the Program page, a read-only table view will appear. When you are ready to make changes, select the Start Programming button at the top left.

The cells will now be editable.

Start Programming

After completing your changes, the Finish Programming button is selected to review and then save.

Beginning to Create the Building Layout

Select a cell and begin entering the property's building and unit information.

Select Cell

As data is entered it is "validated". Cells will be highlighted in red if required information is missing. The programming can not be finalized until all required fields have been entered.

Unit Validation

Smart Copy-Down, Drag the Fill Handle Downward

Much like a spreadsheet, the Program page supports a copy feature accessed by dragging the fill handle downward.

Drag Copy

Right-Click for Additional Options

Additional options are available by right-clicking on any cell:

Right Click

Scan Barcodes to Input Serial Numbers

Serial numbers can be entered with a barcode scanner.

Enter Serial Numbers

Your barcode scanner can be set to send a "return" command after each scan, allowing you to scan one device right after another without needing to click to the next row. Refer to your barcode scanner's documentation if this feature is not turned on or is ending in the cell to the right.

Note: Manually typing serial numbers is not recommended as it is very easy to misread or mistype a serial number. If you do not have a barcode scanner, consider using the Cloud Scanner feature which is available when programming individual units on the Equipment page.

Step 2: Define the Meter Types

A meter model must first be defined on a new property before it can be copied and applied to multiple units. The meter model includes the Unit of Measure and the Multiplier.

Opening the Meter Type Builder to Define a Meter on a Property

If you are adding a meter to a property for the first time or if you are needing to add a different meter, then the Meter Type Builder can be opened in order to define the meter configuration.

Click on the Meter Icon in the Meter Type Cell

Open the Meter Builder

Enter the Meter's Model Information:

Meter Type Builder

  • Enter the manufacturer of the meter
  • Click on the Meter Model field to see the available meter options, or begin typing the model

If you don't know the meter model: A "Generic" manufacturer and "Generic" model can be selected and configured. It is recommended that the actual meter model always be entered. If you are having trouble visually identifying a meter, please feel free to send a photo to support@nextcenturymeters.com or contact Support and we'll be happy to help you.

Multiplier, UoM, Size:

Enter the multiplier and unit of measure for the meter.

Optional: Enter the meter's size as described by the manufacturer. This can include multiple dimensions.

Quickly Copy this Meter Type to Additional Units

Once a meter type has been defined, it can be copied to other units. Click on the fill handle at the corner of the cell and drag downward.

Copy Meter

Note: The meter will only copy onto units with an applicable utility type. For example, if the units have multiple utilities and alternate between All Water and Electric, a water meter can be copied down across all units and it will only apply to the All Water utility rows.

How to Enter or Adjust the Multiplier or UoM

The Multiplier and Unit of Measure are defined by the Meter Type.

Meter Type Pluse

Note that in the example above the Multiplier and UoM can be seen grouped with the meter model.

If a single meter model has more than one multiplier configuration, then a second Meter Type can be defined and applied to these units.

Note: A summary of all Meter Type configurations in use for a property can be viewed on the property's Settings page.

Program Repeaters and the Gateway on the Network tab

A separate view is available to program the property's network equipment including the Gateway and Repeaters.

Network Tab

Select the Network tab to view and add a Gateway and Repeaters.

Step 3: Review Your Changes and Finalize

Once you have completed your programming for this session, select the Finish Programming button. You will then be asked to review your changes:

Review Changes

  • Green highlight is information that has been added
  • Red highlight is information that is being changed

Look over the highlighted changes to ensure that all changes are correct.
