Programming Equipment in the NextCentury Web Portal
Roles: Technicians
Last updated: January 2020
This article steps through the process of programming on the Equipment page.
Note: An additional interface is available for bulk or "rapid programming" using the Program page.
Create the Property Listing and Building Layout
To begin programming, the property listing needs to be created. Then the layout of the property needs to be designated by creating buildings and units within each building. This process is outlined in the article How to create a new property listing.
Once the property has been created and you have a building layout, proceed with the next steps outlined in this article.
Other Situations:
- Does the property you need to program have 3rd Party equipment installed? See the article 3rd Party Upgrade Overview to learn how this equipment is programmed.
- Do you already have all of the property programming in a spreadsheet? See the article Easy Upload for Programming 3rd-Party Properties (Inovonics) .sdf, .bak, and .csv files. for more information.
Programming a Gateway and Repeaters
Navigate to the Equipment page:
- Search or navigate to your property listing
- Select the Equipment page
- Select the Network tab
Enter the Gateway Serial Number
- Click on the serial number field and use a barcode scanner or the Cloud Scanner to enter the serial number.
- The printed serial number and barcode is located on the back of the Gateway or the Gateway's box.
Note: As characters in the serial number can easily be misread or mistyped, using a barcode scanner or the Cloud Scanner in the App is always recommended.
Enter the Repeater Serial Numbers
- Click on the serial number field and use a barcode scanner or the Cloud Scanner in the App to enter the serial number
- The printed serial number and barcode is located on the back of the Repeater or the Repeater's box
Note: As characters in the serial number can easily be misread or mistyped, using a barcode scanner or the Cloud Scanner in the App is always recommended.
Entering Gateway or Repeater Description, Geolocation, or Comments
- Select a Gateway or Repeater for more options
- The device icon on the map can be dragged to the specific location where the device is now or will be installed
- Select the Description button to enter any notes about the device's location
- Select the Comments button to enter any additional information
Programming Transceivers: Navigate to a Unit and Select Program a Device
- Search for or navigate to a property listing
- Select the Equipment page
- Default: Select the Units tab
- If a Transceiver has not yet been programmed to this unit, the Program a Device button will be displayed.
- If at least one Transceiver has already been programmed to this unit, click on the unit for more options.
- Select the Edit button.
Programming Transceivers: Enter the Transceiver Serial Number
- Use a barcode scanner or the Cloud Scanner in the App.
- The barcode is located on the side of the Transceiver
- Select the Utility Type for this meter
Note: As characters in the serial number can easily be misread or mistyped, using a barcode scanner or the Cloud Scanner in the App is always recommended.
Programming Transceivers: Adding an Additional Transceiver and Utility Type to a Unit
If at least one Transceiver has already been added to a unit, additional Transceivers for additional utility-types can be entered under the "Program a Device" section.
- Find the "Program A Device" section near the bottom
- Use a barcode scanner or the Cloud Scanner in the App
- The barcode is located on the side of the Transceiver
- Select the Utility Type for this meter
After scanning in a barcode, the entry of the meter's Unit of Measure and Multiplier is required.
Entry of the Meter Serial Number, Meter Type, and IMR is strongly recommended.
Entering the Meter Model Type
The "Meter Type" field will drop down a menu that allows you to select a meter.
The meter options are:
- Meters you have previously added to units of the same utility-type
- Add a Meter
If you need to add a new meter, see the [How to Manage Meter Models]
Enter the Unit of Measure and Multiplier
- The Unit of Measure and Multiplier are required fields (highlighted in red)
- Enter the Unit of Measure and Multiplier
What happens next: After the programming information has been added or updated, this information will automatically sync with the Gateway.
