Overview

The NextCentury My Read App is a web-based application that conveniently brings water usage information to residents, empowering them to conserve and save.

When property managers enable the My Read App service, residents will be able to conveniently access their reads, see usage history over time, and identify trends.

With the My Read App, residents can easily access their water usage information on a display installed in an accessible location on your property, like a leasing office. This solution is an efficient alternative to installing remote meter read display devices in each unit on a property.

Designed to Meet Regulatory Standards

Traditionally, the way to meet secondary meter indicator requirements has been to install remote reader devices in each unit on a property. While these devices provide residents with a convenient way to monitor usage, they have both upfront and recurring costs including initial purchase, installation, and maintenance. For larger properties, managing these devices for each unit can become a significant investment.

Due to an update to the requirements, a single, centralized display device can replace remote reader devices in each unit. This makes it much more convenient for property managers to provide and maintain a way for residents to view their usage—plus it removes disruptions for installation, inspection, maintenance, or replacement.

The NextCentury My Read App enables properties to meet the updated requirement at a low monthly cost.

To meet the updated requirements, follow the implementation instructions below.

How to Use the My Read App on Your Property

Enable the My Read App

Log in to your account on the app.nextcenturymeters.com web platform.

In the Property Details page, scroll down to the Services section. Select the toggle next to My Read App to enable the subscription.

For more information about the services available through the NextCentury Cloud platform, check out Subscriptions and Payments or contact our support team.

Distribute Serial Numbers

Get a report of the serial numbers for each NextCentury device on the property. You can easily do this on the NextCentury Web Portal or NCSS Mobile App in the Reports section. If you need assistance, contact our support team.

Distribute the device serial numbers to the residents who live in the corresponding units. The residents will need their serial numbers in order to use the app to view their usage. When you distribute the serial numbers, it is recommended to provide a brief overview of the service and how to make use of it on your property (including the display's location).

Select and Install Your Display

Your meter read display must be located in a place where it is easily and regularly accessible to all residents, such as a leasing office.

You have the flexibility to choose the device that works best for you. Following our own testing, we can recommend the Lenovo Tab M11 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+, which are economical options that meet remote meter read display requirements. Because the My Read App is accessed on the web, most other modern tablets will also suffice as long as they can reliably access the internet. Though it is not required, you may install multiple displays.

For convenience and security, select a tablet stand or mount that's appropriate for your space. Because the device will need to always be available, choose a location and mounting option that allows the tablet to stay plugged in and connected to the internet.

After the device is set up and installed, navigate to my-read.nextcenturymeters.com. Check the box next to "This is a shared viewer".

It's best practice to use a service that will prevent users from navigating to other applications or websites. Both of the tablets we recommend have a built-in App Pinning feature that achieve this, though other kiosk mode software can also be used.
