My Read App

The My Read App on a tablet, showing a resident's water meter. At the top are ALL WATER METER and ONLINE. The read is shown in digit boxes, as of 6 hours ago: your current meter read is 294,003.5 Gallons (example data). Below: last month 1,661.89 Gal, down 49.12%; last week 523.1 Gal, down 19.46%; yesterday 101.89 Gal, up 11.51%. A line chart shows monthly usage from Oct to Mar, and View Less is at the bottom.

The My Read App is a web-based application that brings water usage information to residents, helping them conserve and save.

When property managers enable the My Read App service, residents can see their reads, their usage history over time, and trends.

Residents check their usage on a display installed somewhere they can easily reach, like a leasing office. It's an efficient alternative to installing a remote meter read display in each unit.

Meets display requirements

Traditionally, the way to meet secondary meter indicator requirements has been to install remote reader devices in each unit on a property. While these devices give residents a convenient way to monitor usage, they come with upfront and recurring costs, including purchase, installation, and maintenance. On larger properties, managing a device in every unit can become a significant investment.

Because of an update to the requirements, a single, centralized display can now replace the remote reader devices in each unit. That makes it much easier for property managers to give residents a way to view their usage, and it removes the disruption of installing, inspecting, maintaining, or replacing devices in units.

The My Read App lets properties meet the updated requirement at a low monthly cost.

Two ways to set it up

Set up the My Read App on your own tablet, or choose a managed display that Next Meters ships ready to install.

Use your own tablet

Enable the My Read App

Sign in to the NextCentury Web Portal. On the property's Details page, scroll down to Services and turn on the switch next to My Read App.

The Services section of a property's Details page in the NextCentury web portal. It lists Free Data Hosting (with a Get Premium link), Cellular, Manual Reads, Leak Monitoring and My Read App, each with a short description, a switch and a price on the right. A red arrow points to My Read App, at the bottom of the list: Allow this property's tenants to access their usage information from the NextCentury My Read App. Its switch is OFF.

For more about the services available, see Subscriptions and Payments or contact our support team.

Give residents their serial numbers

Run a report of the serial numbers for each NextCentury device on the property, in the Reports section of the NextCentury Web Portal or the NCSS Mobile App. If you need help, contact our support team.

Give each resident the device serial numbers for their unit. Residents need their serial numbers to view their usage in the app. When you hand them out, include a short overview of the service and where the display is on your property.

Set up and install the display

Put the display somewhere all residents can easily and regularly reach, such as a leasing office.

You can choose the device that works best for you. From our own testing, we recommend the Lenovo Tab M11 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+, which are economical options that meet remote meter read display requirements. Because the My Read App runs on the web, most other modern tablets also work, as long as they can reliably access the internet. You can install more than one display if you like.

Choose a tablet stand or mount that suits your space. The display needs to be available at all times, so pick a location and mount that keep the tablet plugged in and connected to the internet.

Once the tablet is installed, go to my-read.nextcenturymeters.com and check the box next to This is a shared viewer.

The My Read App start screen at my-read.nextcenturymeters.com, on a tablet: the Next Century logo above a box with a Meter serial number field and a blue VIEW METER button. Under the box is a checkbox labeled This is a shared viewer, and About App is at the bottom of the screen.

It's best to use a feature that stops people from leaving the app for other apps or websites. Both recommended tablets have a built-in App Pinning feature for this, and other kiosk-mode software works too.

For complete setup instructions, see the My Read App Tablet Setup Guide.
