Open the Transceiver

Press the tab to open the Transceiver, then take out the old battery.

Side view of a TR4 Transceiver with its cover swung open on the hinge at the right. A dotted red arrow curves up and over from the left edge to show the cover lifting open. The old battery is lifted up out of its holder (red arrow pointing up), and a dotted red line shows its white plug, on a red and black wire, unplugged from the socket on the circuit board.

Install the new battery

Attach the new battery's cable first, then set the battery in place.

Side view of the open TR4 Transceiver. The new blue battery's white plug is pushed into the socket on the circuit board (red marks show it clicking in), and a red arrow points down: press the battery down into its holder, with its wire running over the top.

Check the meter wire

Make sure the wire to the meter is still secure.

Test the connection

While the Transceiver is open, press the red Test Connect button. If you see two green blinks, the Transceiver is good to go. If you don't, other equipment on the property may need attention: see Troubleshoot a Connection alert.

Inside the TR4 Transceiver, seen from above: the blue battery along the top with its plug connected at the right end, the meter wire coming in from the left to a blue screw terminal, and the red Test Connect button on the right. A curved red arrow points to the red button from below right.

Close the Transceiver

Snap the cover shut and return the Transceiver to where it was installed.

After replacing a battery: update the IMR

If a device was without power for a while, some usage during that time may have been missed. To keep its reads accurate, enter a new IMR (Initial Meter Read) when you replace the battery. In the NCSS mobile app:

  1. Use the Barcode Scanner tool to scan the device's serial number.
  2. Reset the device manually.
  3. Tap Quick Actions and enter the new IMR.
