What is a sync or premise file?
- Each billing cycle, you'll process a sync file or premise file, also called a reading request file or download file depending on your CIS vendor
- It's an export from your CIS system that gets imported into NextCity
- The file carries any account number, customer name, or service address updates made over the billing cycle
NextCity mirrors your CIS software
Why this matters
Your CIS or billing software is the source of truth for all customer accounts, and NextCity is meant to be a mirror of it. Updating your CIS first, then syncing into NextCity, avoids having to make the same update in two different systems on a changeout, new service address, or move-in/move-out.
Running the import
From the left-hand navigation, go to Organization > Settings, then expand the menu to find Import Configs
Every customer should have a configuration labeled Premise File
Click the play button on that configuration to run the import and browse for your premise or sync file
Reviewing and applying changes
Download the premise file from your CIS system first. This is typically under utility billing, but check with your CIS vendor for the exact steps
Once you open the file, the importer reviews all changes and updated accounts before anything is applied
| Change type | Example |
|---|---|
| Device or radio replacement | Old device ID replaced with the new one |
| Address correction | Updated service address |
| Premise ID correction | Updated premise identifier |
| Customer name correction | Updated name shown under the resident card |
Review the changes, then click Apply Changes to process them
